John Harkins

John was born and raised in Floyd County and began his public
service career in October of 1975 when he became a Deputy Sheriff with
the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department. He was promoted to Sergeant in
1982 and assumed supervisory and many administrative duties. After ten
years of service with Floyd County, John accepted employment at Lockheed
on the security force. While at Lockheed, John was elected by county
employees to a position on the Floyd County Personnel Board. Two and a half years later, he returned to
government service when he was appointed as an Investigator with the
Floyd County District Attorney’s Office. In September of 1991, he was
promoted to Chief Investigator which is the position he presently holds.
During John’s 30-year tenure with Floyd County, he has been involved
in virtually all aspects of the Court system; from his assignments
as a courtroom deputy, to assisting the District Attorney in the
prosecution of major criminal cases.
In addition to being the District Attorney’s Office’s Chief
Investigator, John obtained his Real Estate license in November of
2003 and is associated with Dixon and Tate Real Estate of Rome. He
was Dixon and Tate’s Rookie of the Year in 2004.
John has been a member of East Floyd Lodge #728 F&AM since 1975 and
is also a York Rite and Scottish Rite Mason. He is a member of The
Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce, and a member of The Noon Optimist
Club of Rome. He is a member of the
National Association of Realtors, the Georgia Association of
Realtors, and the Greater Rome Board of Realtors. John is also a
member of the Floyd County Democratic Association.
John and his wife Robbie live in the Kingston Road area of Floyd
County and Robbie is a kindergarten teacher with the Floyd County
school system. They have two children, Karen and Scott. Karen is a
student at the University of Alabama School of Law and Scott is a
student at Georgia Highlands College. |
