John Harkins

John was born and raised in Floyd County and began his public service career in October of 1975 when he became a Deputy Sheriff with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1982 and assumed supervisory and many administrative duties.  After ten years of service with Floyd County, John accepted employment at Lockheed on the security force. While at Lockheed, John was elected by county employees to a position on the Floyd County Personnel Board.  Two and a half years later, he returned to government service when he was appointed as an Investigator with the Floyd County District Attorney’s Office. In September of 1991, he was promoted to Chief Investigator which is the position he presently holds.  

During John’s 30-year tenure with Floyd County, he has been involved in virtually all aspects of the Court system; from his assignments as a courtroom deputy, to assisting the District Attorney in the prosecution of major criminal cases. 

In addition to being the District Attorney’s Office’s Chief Investigator, John obtained his Real Estate license in November of 2003 and is associated with Dixon and Tate Real Estate of Rome. He was Dixon and Tate’s Rookie of the Year in 2004. 

John has been a member of East Floyd Lodge #728 F&AM since 1975 and is also a York Rite and Scottish Rite Mason. He is a member of The Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce, and a member of The Noon Optimist Club of Rome. He is a member of the National Association of Realtors, the Georgia Association of Realtors, and the Greater Rome Board of Realtors. John is also a member of the Floyd County Democratic Association. 

John and his wife Robbie live in the Kingston Road area of Floyd County and Robbie is a kindergarten teacher with the Floyd County school system. They have two children, Karen and Scott. Karen is a student at the University of Alabama School of Law and Scott is a student at Georgia Highlands College.

 
 
 
 

Janet Burch Baker, Chairperson

Janet Burch Baker has been a resident of Floyd County all of her life. She has resided in the Armuchee Community for over forty years. Janet worked for the Floyd County District Attorney’s Office for eighteen years where she helped create and was the Director of the Victim Witness Assistance Program. She served on numerous committees formed to prevent child abuse.  She was a very active member of the original Child Abuse Protocol Committee, the Child Fatality Review Committee, and the Harbor House Interdisciplinary Case Review Team. Mrs. Baker was the recipient of the 1997 Woman of Excellence Award presented by the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce and was a Leadership Rome IX participant. She has been a foster parent for Floyd County and has worked as a Placement Supervisor with the Floyd County Department of Family and Children Services.   

Janet is married to Paul Baker and they have four children and six grandchildren. They spend their family time camping, jet skiing, boating, walking, biking, and attending the grandchildren’s ball games. Janet continues to help facilitate a support group for sexually abused children called Heroes, Great and Small, which she co-founded in 1990. Her current employment with Lutheran Services of Georgia as an Adoption Coordinator for Northwest Georgia allows her to use her experience and her love for disadvantaged children to place special needs children with forever families.    

 

 
 
 
 

Graham Dixon, Treasurer

Graham is a veteran of local political campaigns having served as Treasurer and adviser for several elected officials including Sheriff Tim Burkhalter, and Superior Court Judge Tami Colston.   He currently serves as Vice-Chairman of Campaigns and Finance for the Floyd County Democratic Party and heads up candidate recruitment for the organization.

Outside of politics, Graham is the President and Broker of Dixon and Tate Real Estate, Chairman of the Rome/Floyd County Planning Commission, and President of the Greater Rome Board of Realtors.
